TecFin Limited (New Zealand)

… a little background

J D Rayner

Raised in an American military family, educated in Asian and European countries, I’m a U.S. Air Force veteran, early life paramedic and firefighter. Married to a Kiwi since 1987, I immigrated to our South Island in 2014 from Oklahoma, USA.

With over 35 years finance, insurance and business development experience in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand, I still enjoy my work serving clients in the commercial lending sector by providing both traditional business loans and leases, and more innovative funding solutions for clean energy transport and equipment, automation and robotics technology, battery energy storage, charging, solar and flexibility infrastructure.

My experience that now finds me contributing to New Zealand’s decarbonisation effort in small ways comes by varied paths, and it helps that I’ve been concerned for our planet and future generations for such a long while, that I keep trying to do my bit.

After 13 hard-driving years in auto dealership finance and insurance management in the U.S. and Australia, I switched in 2000 to the recreational vehicle dealership finance environment. I still like supporting the RV industry and advocating for responsible motor coach and caravan travel for campers exploring the beauty of any country. (NZMCA #82317)

Since moving to New Zealand, I’ve enjoyed some interesting development work in roles that include helping Tourism Holdings start their “Mighway” (later sold to Camplify) peer-to-peer motorhome rental platform among other tasks, four years launching electric buses for J W Group, an overlapping four years as a Spartan Finance Senior Partner with MD Mark Williams supporting my passion for advancing commercial EV funding, and a year with Tuatara ATV (because they have safe, full electric utility vehicles!)

I am thankful for those I connect with that share a passion for decarbonisation, sustainability, circular and sharing economies, and for the progress we’ve made in New Zealand, though I feel we’re still moving far too slowly in these areas.

I’m especially proud to have co-written New Zealand’s first electric bus fully maintained operating leases, authored New Zealand’s first heavy commercial vehicle battery lease (for EECA co-funding of a full electric touring coach), and helped spur various commercial EV initiatives with funding methods new to New Zealand.

I support healthier living and transport, decarbonisation with clean energy use, battery stewardship and circular economy thinking.

So, TecFin is my company (renamed from Bus & RV Services), dedicated to serving SME with financing for any business needs, while also helping make transitions to clean energy use more affordable and long-term sustainable.
